FAQS
Can I bring my family members?
Yes. You can bring your spouse or partner and any dependent children under 18 with you to the UK. They will have the right to live, study, and—in most cases—work in the UK.
How do I get endorsed?
To apply for the Global Talent Visa, you must first obtain an endorsement from an approved endorsing body relevant to your sector—such a the Tech Nation (for digital technology) or the Arts Council, or UKRI (for research). You must demonstrate a record of outstanding achievement or show exceptional promise in your field through published work, awards, leadership roles, or significant contributions. Once endorsed, you will receive an endorsement reference number that remains valid for 3 months, within which you must submit your visa application to the Home Office.
Can I switch to a different visa while in the UK?
Yes. You can usually switch to or from other UK routes, such as the Skilled Worker, Innovator Founder, or Scale-up visas, subject to eligibility. It’s important to ensure the timing aligns with your current visa expiry and that you continue lawful residence throughout the process.
Can I start my own business on this visa?
Yes. The Global Talent Visa offers extensive flexibility—you can start, run, or invest in a UK business without needing a separate sponsorship or work authorisation.
Can I work for any employer?
Yes. You are free to work for any employer, be self-employed, or combine multiple roles across different organisations. Many visa holders pursue a mix of activities such as employment, research, teaching, and consultancy. However, to qualify for settlement, you must show ongoing work in your field of endorsement and evidence of active contribution to it.
What happens if my endorsement body withdraws its support?
If your endorsing body withdraws its endorsement, you must inform the Home Office. In some cases, your visa may be shortened (curtailed), depending on the reason for withdrawal.
Can I apply from outside the UK?
Yes. You can apply for the Global Talent Visa from overseas once your endorsement has been approved. You must complete the visa application process and submit your supporting documents and biometrics within three months of receiving the endorsement.
Can I study while on a Global Talent Visa?
Yes. You can study in the UK without needing to apply for another visa, as long as your study does not interfere with your primary work in your field of talent or promise. Depending on your course, you may need to obtain an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate before starting your studies.
Do I need a sponsoring employer?
No. Unlike the Skilled Worker Visa, the Global Talent route does not require employer sponsorship. Instead, your endorsement acts as proof of your eligibility, giving you freedom to work independently or for multiple employers within your field
