You may be self-employed or start your own business

Do I need a job offer before applying?

No. Unlike Skilled Worker Visas, the Graduate Visa does not require a job offer.

Can I start my own business?

Yes. Graduate Visa holders can start and run a business in the UK, providing a flexible post-study work opportunity.

What happens if my Graduate Visa expires?

You must either:

Switch to another visa route

Leave the UK

Continue your employment or business under a new visa

Can I study further while on a Graduate Visa?

Yes. You may take additional courses while on this visa. However, studying cannot be the main purpose of your stay—work and career development should remain your focus.

Can I volunteer or do unpaid work?

Yes. You are allowed to volunteer or do unpaid work in addition to your paid employment.

Is there a minimum salary requirement?

No. There is no minimum salary or job requirement for Graduate Visa holders, unlike Skilled Worker Visas.

Can I change employers while on a Graduate Visa?

Yes. You can work for any employer in the UK, switch jobs, or start your own business without restrictions.

Do I need health insurance?

You must pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) when applying for your Graduate Visa, giving full access to the NHS.

Can I apply from outside the UK?

No. The Graduate Visa is only available for applicants inside the UK on a valid Student Visa at the time of application.

How soon after graduation can I apply?

You can apply once your university has officially confirmed you have successfully completed your course and whilst your Student Visa is still valid

Can I do casual or gig work?

Yes. You may do casual or gig work, freelancing, or part-time work as long as it does not breach UK law or visa rules.

What happens if my university delays issuing my final results?
